Baghdad / NINA / - The Supreme Council for Iraqi Women called for protecting the case of Dr. Ban Ziad from any attempts at political exploitation.
The Council stated in a statement that it is following with deep sadness and sorrow the unfortunate death of Dr. Ban Ziad Tariq in Basra Governorate, which sparked widespread condemnation and demands for the full truth to be revealed to public opinion.
The Council affirmed its confidence that the Iraqi judiciary will fulfill its role with complete transparency and justice, ensuring justice for the victim, thus contributing to preserving the dignity of Iraqi women and promoting their rights.
It added, "It is committed to fully exercising its role, for which it was established, to preserve women's rights and defend their dignity at all levels. The case must also be protected from any attempts at political exploitation."
The death of the young doctor under mysterious circumstances on August 4th of this year shocked her colleagues, both doctors and the general public in Basra. While a local security source suggested the incident was a suicide, Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari directed the dispatch of a special investigative committee from the ministry to Basra to follow up on the integrity of the investigation into the circumstances of the case. Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution Office received an official parliamentary request. To form a special committee of forensic experts to re-examine the body of Basra Governorate's most prominent psychiatrist.
Meanwhile, former MP Rehab Al-Abouda revealed intriguing threads linking the murder of the psychiatrist to the murder of university professor Sarah Al-Abouda about nine months ago. According to Al-Abouda, the hypotheses indicate that the deceased doctor was responsible for assessing the psychological state of the perpetrator, the brother-in-law of the current Basra governor, but she refused to write a report describing him as mentally ill.
For its part, the Basra Health Department denied that Dr. Ban Ziad Tariq was part of a committee examining the mental health of Dhurgham Abdul-Salem Nema, accused of killing Basra University lecturer Sarah Al-Abouda. /End
