Foreign Minister discusses with his Iranian counterpart Iran’s perspective on resuming negotiations with Washington
During the call, Minister Araghchi outlined Iran’s vision for preparing to resume negotiations—a proposal previously presented prior to the United States midterm elections. He explained that this vision includes setting a timeline for the commencement of the negotiation process, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a return to the points established in the understandings reached in Pakistan, in addition to incorporating new elements concerning Iran’s nuclear dossier.
For his part, Fuad Hussein thanked his Iranian counterpart for the call and for providing a detailed briefing on the Iranian vision. The Minister also discussed the U.S. midterm elections, their results, and their potential implications for developments in the region.
He noted that the region is currently experiencing a period of escalating tension, with the persistent risk of a resurgence in military operations. He emphasized the importance of taking practical steps and measures to contain the escalation and create the necessary conditions to de-escalate tensions.
In this context, Fuad Hussein proposed an initiative to form a committee—comprising the foreign ministers of several regional states—tasked with visiting both Tehran and Washington. The objective would be to explore ways to reach peaceful understandings that could help address existing disputes and bolster regional stability.
The Minister reiterated his thanks to his Iranian counterpart, stressing the importance of continued communication and coordination among regional states—particularly neighboring countries—to support efforts aimed at avoiding escalation and consolidating security and stability. / End
