25 kg of Narcotics Seized and Two Foreign Traffickers Arrested in Iraqi Territorial Waters
In a statement, the Directorate reported that, as part of a proactive security operation targeting maritime smuggling routes, units from the General Directorate for Narcotics Affairs—in coordination with the Naval Forces Command and the Naval Intelligence Directorate—carried out a precise intelligence-led operation in territorial waters. The operation resulted in the seizure of 25 kg of narcotic substances and the arrest of two foreign traffickers, while the search for a third suspect remains ongoing.
The Directorate added that the operation was launched based on accurate intelligence indicating that criminal networks continue to exploit maritime routes to transport shipments of narcotics into Iraq and neighboring countries. Acting on this information, authorities tracked those involved and successfully thwarted their scheme.
The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to continuing proactive operations aimed at eliminating the sources of this scourge, pursuing trafficking and smuggling networks, and blocking attempts to use Iraqi territory and waters as a transit corridor for the trade of these illicit substances. / End
