Trump rules out dismissing Hegseth amid fallout from war with Iran
In remarks reported by ABC News, Trump affirmed that Hegseth would remain in his position...
The U.S. President expressed his support for the Secretary of War just one day after the Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the midterm congressional elections—a result that reflected voter anger over the war with Iran, according to Reuters.
When asked whether he was considering replacing Hegseth—whom Trump described as one of the staunchest supporters of the war—the President told reporters, "No, I think he is doing a very good job."
Despite Trump’s comments to the press, Reuters cited sources as saying that the possibility of Trump appointing a replacement for the current Secretary of War remains on the table, as Republicans continue to assess their losses.
One of Trump’s advisors remarked, "Hegseth may well be on the verge of losing his position because of the war."
He added, "Someone will be held responsible for this, and it goes without saying that it won’t be Trump." Hegseth is a divisive figure in the American political landscape, having stirred animosity even within the Republican Party itself. / End
