A member of the Parliamentary Energy and Oil Committee, Amjad Al-Oqabi, said in a statement: “Some companies have submitted proposals to establish waste recycling stations in Baghdad in order to produce electrical energy, but these companies decided that waste sorting should be done by the people (as in developed countries). In fact, this will not work, as most of the people do not have a culture of sorting waste. "
He added, "Some foreign companies have presented ideas for establishing civilized stations inside Baghdad without sorting, ridding Iraq of accumulated waste, in addition to employing a lot of manpower, but a difference occurred between the Ministry of Electricity and those companies that want to establish the station regarding the selling price of megawatts, which is estimated $ 160, which is a very big price.”
He stated, "If the Baghdad Municipality cooperates and pays part of this price, then the process of building such a station can take place, and the topic is under study now and has economic feasibility, since this station is environmentally friendly, and Iraq will get rid of sanitary landfills, so there must be a session between the Municipality of Baghdad and the Ministries of Electricity and Oil, which will supply the station with a small amount of fuel for operating purposes.
He emphasized that "the feasibility lies in if the high cost that the Municipality of Baghdad bears in raising waste monthly compared to the cost of operating this station, and the investing company has pledged to provide vehicles to lift waste and compressors to treat it, and we will proceed with this service and strategic project if we agree with the Baghdad Municipality on bear half of the project amount, and it is likely that the idea will be circulated to all governorates./ End
