Baghdad (NINA) – Minister of Science and Technology, Abdul Kareem al-Samara'e, signed with British Ambassador to Iraq, Simon Collis, a Memo of Understanding to dispose of the remains of Iraq's former chemical program.
A statement issued on Monday, July 30, by the Ministry of Science and Technology said, "The Agreement consists that scientists of the British Ministry of Defence, with the help of Iraqi government, get rid of the remains of former Chemical program, and Britain trains Iraqi staff on how to safely dispose of the remains of these weapons.
It added, "Samara'e stressed the importance of this Memo between both sides, which affirms Iraq's keenness, through its constitution, to carry out its commitments in accordance with international agreements on not to spread chemical weapons and the government's desire to take a number of measures that help Iraq return to its normal position in the international community."
Samara'e praised British positive response to help training Iraqi experts to analyze chemical agents and cooperation that will have positive effect on developing bilateral relations.
For his part, Ambassador Collis praised Iraq's role, represented by the Ministry of Science and Technology, to get rid of its chemical weapons and its commitment toward international commitments and to help training Iraqi experts in this hard and dangerous task. / End.
