Baghdad (NINA) – The United Nations expressed readiness to cooperate with Iraq in combating drought and water management.
A statement issued on Sunday, July 29, by the Ministry of Science and Technology said that the Minister, Abdul Kareem al-Samara'e, met with Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq Ms. Jacqueline Badcock, explaining the Ministry's role in development and humanitarian fields.
It added that in the meeting, Samara'e pointed out that the Ministry has memos of understanding with many governmental and service institutions and has an active role in national committees, such as catastrophes, environmental changes, energy committees and the electronic government.
Samara'e added that the Ministry has representative in the provinces to provide services to many governmental institutions in the fields of environments, water, agriculture, combating drought and renewable energy, as well as other fields.
For her part, Ms. Jacqueline Badcock expressed the UN Mission's (UNAMI) readiness to cooperate with Iraq, especially in the field combating drought, water management and catastrophes, as well as carrying out field visits to find out the provinces' needs to offer consultations and help in solving problems.
She stressed the importance of keeping in touch to develop future cooperation. / End.
