Baghdad (NINA) – Leader of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC), Ammar al-Hakeem, said that holding early election is not a practical solution to current political crisis.
In a speech on Wednesday, June 27, Hakeem said, "We do not see a practical solution to the crisis through the calls for holding early election, though we will benefit from it."
Hakeem wished that Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, "Takes the initiative by making contacts with all political sides to find solution to the country's current crisis."
He criticized attempts to reduce the Parliament's prestige, because it represents the legitimacy of the peoples; naming its Speaker achieved through political understanding, therefore removing him must be through political understanding.
A statement by the Prime Minister's Media Bureau considered calling for early election will be a solution, where the decision made by the people in accordance with democratic mechanism, which becomes in response to the other side refuses to sit around negotiation table insisting on creating crisis harming the peoples' interests. / End.
