Baghdad (NINA) – The Ministry of Justice announced that it has started since Tuesday afternoon, June 5, transporting inmates of Risafa 4 and Baladiyat prisons to Adaleh Prison in Kadhimiya.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, Hayder al-Sa'di, told NINA that transporting inmates came as part of the Ministry's plan to close down irregular prisons.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Justice announced that inmates in Risafa 4 and Baladiyat prisons have carried out disturbances.
Source at the Ministry of Justice said, "The prisoners carried out disturbances in response to a decision to transport them to Kadhimiya Prison." He affirmed that no casualties resulted.
It is noteworthy that lawmaker from Ahrar bloc, Hussein Alwan, said that inmates in Baladiyat and Tasfeerat Risafa 4 prisons suffer from being beaten with clubs and live weapons.
He told NINA that reports from inside Baladiyat and Tasfeerat Risafa 4 prisons affirm that prisoners are being beaten with clubs and live weapons in violation to human rights that the Constitution stipulates.
He accused the prisons' official of being responsible the prisoners' safety and for violating human rights. / End.
