Baghdad (NINA) – Leader of Iraqiya's Parliamentary bloc, Salman al-Jumaili, described the call to hold referendum to withdraw confidence from Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki as being a 'positive step'.
In a statement to NINA on Friday, June 1, Jumaili said, Public referendum on withdrawing confidence is a right step that will show the real public opinion, but we believe that final word is for Parliament."
Jumaili pointed out that required votes to withdraw confidence from the government of Prime Minister al-Maliki in Parliament has been obtained.
Earlier, the leader of the Sadrist Trend, Muqtada Sadr called for holding a referendum on whether to withdraw confidence from Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki, if conditions for holding such referendum are available.
Sadr was quoted by his office saying, "I support holding a referendum on whether to withdraw confidence from Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, holding such a referendum is to be agreed on by official and public bodies, and to be supervised by a honest and impartial civil society body." / End.
