Baghdad (NINA) – Leader of the National Alliance (NA), Ibrahim al-Jafari, discussed with the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Special Representative for Iraq, Martin Kobler, means to activated the UN's role in supporting Iraq's democracy.
A statement issued by Jafari's Office said that the two exchanged points of view on current political situation and activating the UN's role in supporting Iraq's democracy, as well as pushing the political process forward.
The statement quoted Jafari saying after the meeting that they have discusses Iraqi affairs and their relations with events in the area as well as the international situation.
He added that what Iraq needs are improving the services provided to the public, though it is a rich country, yet it still in need of international and regional support; admitting the existence of challenges, but there is a national will to overcome them with the United Nations' help.
For his part, Kobler said, "We discussed issues related to domestic problems and I have expressed concern that the crisis prevents fulfilling the peoples' economic needs.
He added, "The problem must be resolved quickly and through Constitutional means, the UN is ready to provide its help when requested,
Kobler went on saying, "We are here not to intervene but to serve and help Iraq and be concerned over the peoples' needs. The statement concluded. / End.
