Jalili: Negotiations were serious, we demanded 20% enrichment

Baghdad (NINA) - Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council and head of Iranian delegation to the 5+1 talks, Saeed Jalili, described the meetings of being serious and Iraq has played in them a positive role.

In a press conference held after the meetings ended, Jalili said, "In the meetings Iran demanded to be allowed to enrich uranium at the level of 20%, which is its natural right."

He added, "Iran is in need for the peaceful nuclear program that service millions of its citizens."

Answering a question by NINA on whether the United States is the main oppose to Iran's nuclear program, Jalili said, "This question is to be addressed to the United States."

As for threats to use force against Iran, Jalili replied, "Iran is capable to defend itself, but it believes that the solution must come through dialogue and peaceful diplomatic means."

He added that talks covered other issues, in addition to the nuclear issues, such as combating drugs and high seas piracy; Iran has expressed its readiness to cooperate regarding these two points.

Talks of the 5+1 group with Iran started on Wednesday over Iran's nuclear issue, with the attendance of representatives of the five permanent members of the Security Council and the European Union's High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, the meetings ended on Thursday afternoon. / End.
