Baghdad (NINA) – The Ministry of Agriculture announced that Iraq will preside over the 31st Regional Conference of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization scheduled to be held during the period 14-18 of current May in Rome, Italy.
A statement issued on May 9, by the Ministry's Media Bureau said that Iraq's delegation, represented by the Minister of Agriculture, Izeldeen al-Dawla, will preside over the Conference. It is to discuss problems of agriculture, food security, fishing, the effect of climate change effects on the Near East and North Africa and means to adapt to is, as well as agreeing on policies to be followed by the region's member states.
The FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva said that the Regional Conference is part of the Organization's agencies according to its policies of decentralization, which is being held on biannual base.
He added that the FAO Near East organization consists of 30 member states and that the Conference will be on the form of technical meeting attended by senior officials during the period from 14 to 16 of May to be followed by Ministerial Meeting during 17-18 of May. / End.
