Hilla (NINA) – Security agencies in Babil province declared adopting heavy security measures following American forces withdrawal from their base in Jabelah district, 70 km north of Hilla.
Police source told NINA on Sunday, Dec. 11, that the measures include increase in the number of checkpoint set on the highways and patrols around the base.
He added that support forces from nearby provinces are called to provide protection to the highway passing by the base.
American forces handed over on Sunday the Kalsu Base, located in northern Babil, to the Iraqi Army.
Handing over the base took place in a ceremony during which General Hussein al-Asadi, signed it on behalf of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, General Hussein al-Asadi, and the Commander of American forces in Babil province signed it on behalf of the American side.
Gen. Asadi said that American forces will leave the province within 24 hours after the base became under the responsibilities of the Iraqi Army.
He added that Kalsu Base has a strategic importance because it will be a base for logistic support to the Mid Euphrates Operations Command. / End.
