Baghdad (NINA) – Informed source said that merging between State of Law Alliance (SL) and the National Iraqi Alliance (NIA) will be announced within this week.
The source told NINA on Sunday, May 2, “Merger between the two alliances seems to be a done deal.”
The source said the disagreement between the two alliances remains on naming the prime minister.
He added that the NIA intends to nominate Ibrahim al-Jafari, Baqir Jabir al-Zubaidi and Adel Abdul Mehdi for the post, while the SL will nominate Nuri al-Maliki.
For his part, SL official, Hassan al-Sinaid, told NINA that talks between both alliances are moving in a positive direction and are optimist.
He said that talks between both alliances have not reached a dead end.
If merger between the two alliances is realized, the new alliance will become the larges with 159 parliamentary seats.
The Kurdish alliance is expected to join in to make a bloc of 216 seats, which is two third of the Parliament’s seats.
While the SL insists on nominating Nuri al-Maliki for the post of Prime Minister, the Sadrist trend, at the NIA, has reservations on nominating Maliki fro a second term. / End.
