Baghdad (NINA) – Chairman of Parliament Defence and Security Committee, Hassan al-Sinaid, said that Iraq would not abide by any military or security agreement the United States concluded with Turkey during its military presence in Iraq.
In a statement to NINA on Saturday, March 30, Sinaid said that Turkey's reconnaissance planes over Kurdistan Region represent provocative action breaches Iraq's sovereignty.
Sinaid said that Iraq's air defence system would respond to any breach of Iraq's air space by any country.
Turkey's General Command said on Friday that it has sent unmanned reconnaissance aircrafts over Iraq to monitor elements of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) in Iraq.
A statement issued on Friday, Turkey's Military Command said on its web site that according to a memo of understanding signed on the 14 November 2011 with the US, before withdrawing from Iraq, allows Turkey to fly reconnaissance planes over Iraq for intelligence purposes.
It added that there are four other planes of same type stationed in the Turkish Incirlik Base, to carry out same task if needed. / End.
