Baghdad (NINA) – According to statistics released by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said that there are about 70 thousand Syrian refugees in Iraq; 45 thousands of them are in Duhok province, Kurdistan Region.
A statement by the UNHCR said that the UNHCR, the UNICEF, World Food Programme, the United Nations Populations Fund and the International Organization for Migration are working alongside the none governmental organizations in fulfilling the humanitarian needs of Syrian refugees in Iraq.
It added that the UN in Iraq is immediately in need of $ 86 million to fulfill the Syrian refugees' humanitarian need until 2013.
The UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Needs Jacqueline Carol Badcock, said that cold weather in northern Iraq increase the suffering of Syrian refugees.
She added that the UN agencies in Iraq urge the international community to provide help through providing more financial assistance to fulfill the refugees humanitarian needs. She asked the international community to increase their humanitarian help to the refugees. / End.
