Baghdad (NINA) – Lawmaker from Niniveh province, Mahma Khalil, warned security forces from attempting to escalate the situation and attack protestors in Mosul.
In a statement on Monday, Jan. 7, Khalil called upon the security forces to respect the province's tribal and religious particularity and consider its population, economic and security weight as well as the sensitivity of its geographical location.
Khalil added that spontaneous demonstrations that came out to express public anger in the province are in response to violating their rights and excluding them, as well as not enjoying their rights and services as citizens, as well as denying them from the country's wealth that is getting lost as a result of corruption.
Earlier in the afternoon, a number of the province's officials reopened the Ahrar Square, which was closed by the Army who opened fire at the demonstrators. / End.
