BAGHDAD / NINA / Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki received at his official office today, the commander of Central Command of U.S. forces / central region/ Gen. James Mattis.
A statement by Maliki's office said, that during the meeting, the importance of continuing cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of armaments and the completion of the systems of air and sea defense , was discussed, in accordance with the strategic framework agreement.
Maliki called according to the statement, to accelerate the military equipment, to defend Iraq and its sovereignty and independence, asserting that "We do not want to attack any one, at the same time, we refuse any offend to our sovereignty."
He also called for the development of capabilities of the terrorism combat and to work on supplying it to defeat terrorism, stressing that the policy of armament must be federal, as determined by the federal government to the priorities and needs.
For his part, the commander of U.S. Central Command confirmed that the United States is willing to develop cooperation and to give the armament a special importance due to the urgent need for Iraq at the present time, noting that the United States agrees with the Iraqi side on the necessity that the federal government should oversee each armament activity in the country, so as to enhance security and stability of Iraq on all its land, waters and airspace. / End
