BAGHDAD / Nina / Kurdistan Alliance MP Qasim Mohammad Qasim reduced the importance of news stories about Iran's determination to deploy air defense missile system in Iraq, noting that "if Iran really is planning that secretly, they would do it without announcing that in the media."
He explained in a statement to / Nina /: "Iran has a strong influence in Iraq and Iraqi officials have friendly relations with Iran, and it is able to achieve its goals in Iraq without raising that in the media."
He added that "Iran's influence extends widely in the central and southern Iraq, I do not think that an Iraqi government might come in the future more friendly with Iran, than the current government, and certainly its influence in Iraq and the friendly relations between them and some Iraqi politicians will help them to achieve their goals behind the scene and not in public, so the declaration of the news in media in this way makes us doubt about its credibility."
There was news reports indicated Iran's intention to deploy an air defense system in Iraq to counter any U.S. or Israeli military strike against its nuclear facilities. / End
