Baghdad (NINA) – The Iraqi government received an official invitation from the Joint Envoy of the UN and Arab League to Syria, Kofi Annan, to take part in the ministerial meeting scheduled to be held on June 30 in Geneva.
A statement issued on Thursday, June 28, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the invitation is sent also to the foreign ministers of the five permanent representatives at the Security Council (US, UK, France, Russia, China). In addition to Iraq, for being Chairman of the Arab Summit, the invitation sent also to Kuwait, for being Chairman of the Arab Ministerial Council, Qatar, for being Chairman of the Follow up Committee on the Syrian Issue, and Turkey.
The UN Secretary General, the Arab League's Secretary General, the EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, are being invited to attend.
Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, will represent Iraq to the meeting, to express Iraq's point of view toward solving the Syrian crisis, for being an active participant in the Arab and regional issues, as well as a neighbor of Syria, the statement concluded. / End.
