Baghdad (NINA) – The Arab League said that a phone call was made on Saturday, June 16, between Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and The Arab League's Secretary General, Nabil Elaraby, discussion follow up the resolutions of Baghdad Summit and the situation in the Arab area, for Iraq being the Summit's current Chairman.
In a statement to the press, the Arab League's Assistant Secretary General, Ahmed bin Helli, said, "The two discussed following up implementing resolutions of the Twenty-Third Arab Summit held in Baghdad last March, especially charging the League's Secretary General to take required measures to restructure the League's Secretariat and improve its regulations and works to enable it keep up with developments in the Arab and international fields, including the review of its offices abroad.
He went on saying that discussion touched on media reports of the League's intention to close its office in Baghdad, where Iraq requested the League not to close its office in Baghdad at present due to the need of its services.
Bin Helli added that the Summit requested the Secretary General to take appropriate measures and to study the status of the Leagues temporary offices in some Arab countries, including the Baghdad Office, taking into consideration the situation in Iraq. / End.
