Kirkuk (NINA) - In a ceremony held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, attended by representative for the Defence Minister, the Commander of Iraqi Air Force and the Commander of American Air Force in Iraq, the Kirkuk Air Base received six helicopters, aviation sets and a radar system.
General Anwar Hameh Ameen, Commander of Iraqi Air Force, told NINA, "Receiving the helicopters and inaugurating radar system comes part of a project carried out in cooperation with the Americans to consolidate the capabilities of Iraqi Air Force."
He pointed out that 'Freedom Base' is the first to obtain highly advanced radar system. It is to be connected with the systems installed at Baghdad and Basra international airports forming a one system able to recognize all planes using Iraq's air space."
For his part, General Ken, Commander of American Air Force in Iraq, told NINA, "Three years ago, we started this project at the cost of $ 53 million with a capacity to cover 250 km, it will provide support to Iraqi Air Force as well as civil pilots." / End.
